Welcome!

Located in far west Kentucky, Hester College is one of the eight residential colleges which are the heart of student life at Murray State University. The college takes its name from the long time registrar at MSU.

The college's colors are royal blue, kelly green, and gold. The college mascot is the Hedgehog, a useful and resourceful animal found throughout Europe and North America.

Hester College prides itself on the achievements of its students. In four of the first eight years MSU has had residential colleges, Hester students have earned both the academic flag, for having the highest composite cumulative grade point average among residential colleges, and the All Sports Trophy. The prestigious President's Cups for Academics and Athletics both were on display throughout 2003-04, and Hester College has earned the right to display them again in 2004-05. Its academic team has placed first or second in seven of eight annual quick recall tournaments, and its chorus has place first in the residential college division of All Campus Sing in five of eight years. The Hester debate team has lost only one match in eight years.

Hester college also is proud of the contributions of approximately 100 faculty and staff members of the college. Many have advised organizations, attended dinners with students, presented programs, and participated in social events.

Highlights is a newsletter published weekly by Hester College students.

Hester College is self-governing; an executive board and council meet on alternate Monday nights to set policy and plan activities for the college. Many activities are carried out through the functioning of the standing Programming, Public Relations, Service, and Social committees.

Major traditions of the college include Monster Bash, a college-wide costume party near Halloween; Hedgehog Day each February 2nd; the annual Spring Luau complete with grass skirts and leis, and signing of the Hester Rock by graduating seniors.
